May 26, 2008 :Oh Baby, Baby...Baby, Baby, Baby
Wow! What a May we have had. It seemed that every day we had something new to blog about but then we'd be hit with something else. Please stay tuned and we promise pictures and details.
April 29, 2008 :The waiting game
For the past two weeks we have had unbelievable weather. Unseasonably warm and mild which has allowed almost all of the snow to melt slowly. Thank goodness! But after all of that gorgeous weather, we're now having 24 hours of torrential rains. We have three girls all now due with our first spring crias and we're hoping they're born with snorkels and flippers because the fields are looking more like lakes! We'll be posting pictures so keep checking back. Last weekend we hosted our 2nd Dyeing with Good Karma and we had a great time. Look at the yarn that Holly made.

4/2/08 :North American Alpaca Show
We're off to Spingfield MA tomorrow for the North American Alpaca show which is one of the biggest shows in North America. We were supposed to be bringing Corona, Coba and Sebastian but Corona and Coba(them and only them!) both had signs of mange on their feet. That meant that they couldn't pass the vet inspection and of course who wants to show less than perfect animals. We're very disapointed because we think all three animals had a shot at a ribbon. The good news is that we don't have to bring the trailer and the animals can stay safe and sound on our farm. We'll be promoting the spinning company as well as the farm, visiting with old friends and seeing lots of beautiful alpacas.
3/24/08 :Wait, you have to see this one!
We know, we know! If Cletus the Wonderdog can climb over our fence so can anything else. But what are we to do? With other 200 inches of snow, we have done the best that we can. Please pray for a gentle spring- but soon! By the way, the fence is a 6-footer

3/24/08 :We Found the Camera
YEeehaw!!! It's been missing since March 8. We have searched and cleaned and even accused (secretly) house guests. Today, while we were on the brink of despair (after 3 weeks and pricing new ones) we found it in the most exotic of places- Jim's briefcase. Zoe has suggested that we complain to Staples that this model of briefcase has far too many pockets. But, no kidding, we have all searched this briefcase. To remind everyone where we were on 3/8 I've posted this picture

3/21/08 :Good Karma Spinning Company
I know there are people looking for our new website. I can't figure out how to add a link to this site the right way. Here's the address:

2/23/08 :Spa- 4
While there weren't many men at SPA (like almost none!) Jim had a good time!

2/23/08 :Spa -3
And this is Linda of String Theory Yarn shop.

2/23/08 :Spa 2
This is Libby, another fellow greeter!

02/23/08 :SPA
It's hard to explain to the uninitiated about Spa. This past weekend was the 5th year of Spa which is an annual get together of hundreds of like-minded knitters and spinners from all over the Northeast and as far away as Virginia and Oregon. Jim, Zoe and I traveled to Freeport Saturday morning as I had volunteered to work the "greeters" table from 10-12. I spent 2 really fun hours with Betsy, Linda and Libby and I thought they were going to have to drag Linda and I away from the table. We weren't ready to give-up our duties! Take a look at all of the Spa pictures I've posted. Next year I'm getting a room and spending the whole weekend. The lovely lady pictured is Betsy from Bath wearing a beautiful shawl she received as a gift.

Febrary 11, 2008 :Denial
I took a picture of the unbelievable amount of snow we have here -- waist deep where there are NO drifts. I was going to post it to the blog today but it is no miserable outside today that I think this picture is better. We have a temperature just above zero and 30-40 mile winds. Our angora bunnies were blocks of ice this morning. They spent a good part of the day in our dining room trapped under empty clothes hampers. Really really happy to be inside and dry. Snow I can deal with and even cold is doable but 30 mph winds just plain suck!

02/09/08 :Barack Obama
Yesterday we attended a rally for Barack Obama in Bangor. This is picture of us in front of the really famous Paul Bunyon statue. The line to get into the auditorium was endless and many people were turned away. We met some great people while we were in line. For the life of me I can only remember one of their names (Rhonda). Today we participated in the Maine Caucus. We had huge turnout (28 people) for Kingfield- perhaps even record-setting. Kingfield voted for Obama with two state delagates going for him and one for Clinton. What a great experience!

02/07/08 :Dyeing with Good Karma
Saturday was our first ever "Dyeing with Good Karma" workshop and the only bad thing about it was that we wished we had more time. Apparently 6 hours wasn't long enough! All of the attendees were completely new to dyeing and now they are raving addicts. I've attached a picture of one example of their beautiful work. We'll be doing it again so those of you who didn't get a chance this time will get another shot. If you are reading this blog and would like to be on our mailing list for upcoming workshops, please send us an email at spinme@tds.net

01/27/08 :Beautiful Rosalita
I really shouldn't write about how pretty she is and not include a picture but the camera is down at the spinning co. and it struck me this afternoon just how beautiful she is. She has such a feminine look but is really heavy-boned. On top of that she is completely silent. You never hear her complain about anything and for a bred female she still likes to kick-up her heels. Friday we took Coba to the vet. He developed kind of a creeping crud of the foot so he's on antibiotics for that. Not a big deal and he'll be ready to go to the North American Alpaca show. His fleece is beautiful. Corona also looks fantastic. Really crimpy chocolate brown fleece. It hardly seems possible that we have so many females in the last 3 months of pregnancy. the spring babies will be here before we know it which also means that summer will be right behind. Can't wait.
01/12/08 :What a weird winter
As of December 31, we had already received 100+ inches of snow here. This time a week ago, we were walking down to get into our house. Then we experienced the mostly annual January thaw. By Tuesday the mountains had lost more than 1/2 of their snow but due to a strange temperature inversion we hadn't lost as much. The weather has been weirdly warm for the past couple of days and we've gotten everything from snow to sleet to freezing rain. The alpacas are loving it! They do really well even in extremely cold temperatures but they prefer highs in the 30's. So do we!
